From its very small but very important beginnings in 1867 to where we are now, Howard University's long journey is a beautiful story. Through our key values of leadership, excellence, and truth and service.

From its very small but very important beginnings in 1867 to where we are now, Howard University's long journey is a beautiful story. Through our key values of leadership, excellence, and truth and service.
Howard University has created a community of leaders and professionals that have gone on to change the world. Kamala Harris, Chadwick Boseman, Phylicia Rashad, and Toni Morrison are just a few historical figures who graduated from Howard University that have gone on to make history and change the world.
In the film, Professor Harry G. Robinson III, an architect and author of "The Long Walk" said, "Howards growth as a place and as an institution parallels international history and was right in step with what this country and world was doing." I agree with this statement. Since Howard University was founded, there has always been an unspoken rule of a long journey that everyone was aware of. Those who attended Howard University knew they would have to go through the long walk once on campus.
The University was founded during the civil rights era so the long walk was inevitable. The historical metaphor of the journey and the talent produced from Howard University plays a significant role in history and highlights the excellence produced by Howard.
"The historical metaphor of the long walk certainly says that HU as most places acts on a cycle, there was a time when freshman couldn step on the long walk until they become Sophomores so this was a legendary physical attribute of the University that had character and its character came from great people walking the long walk, everyone who spoke at commencement walked the long walk."
Four years ago, when I knew Howard University was the University for me, I immediately felt comfortable, and I felt like I could be who I wanted to be, and I just felt like that was the place for me.
I have never been on a campus that felt like home, I have actually never been anywhere really that felt like home, and it's honestly not until now that I realize that Howard University has truly made me into who I am.
Howard University has built me into the strong person I am today, and through the Howard hustle, I've learned how to get what I need even though it might be difficult. I've learned that I can do what I need to do and I am a capable person and that with a strong mentality can do anything that I want to do.
